Why Was Christ Killed (Martyred)?
Why didn’t Christ when threaten to be crucified simply recant what He said? Do you think anyone would have believed in Him if he did? Or why didn’t He flee into the wilderness and hide from the world. Or why didn’t He call down fire as Elijah did and destroy all who opposed Him? Jesus said, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down (sacrifice) his life for his friends.” JOHN 15:13 Sacrificing one’s life to help others is without question the greatest love of all and is the greatest testimony anyone can give. There is no greater love than being willing to give your life to help save others. “For God so loved the world that he gave (sacrificed) his only begotten (clone) Son. That whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” JOHN 3:16 God himself demonstrated His love for the world when he sacrificed His only begotten (cloned) Son to help save the world. Yes, God could have chosen to save His Son by taking Him out of the world as He did Elijah. Instead, God chose to allow His Son to suffer a horrible death. Christ, in turn, was willing to offer Himself as a sacrifice to help the world understand the truth that He was the Son of God and that His word is the Word of God. God and His Son are not asking His children who know the truth to do anything more than what they themselves have done. When Moses sacrificed two lambs without blemish, he was demonstrating the sacrifice that two disciples of Christ would have to make to represent God’s meeting place on earth. Christ’s disciples are to be without blemish (without fault) and what makes them perfect, in God’s eyes, is because they follow His commandments, which leads to martyrdom. Many of God’s people are going to be martyred during the coming great tribulation. Yes, they will appear to die but they will not be dead because they have God’s word that they will be resurrected (1st resurrection) to eternal life.
Death By Crucifixion: Christ was tortured, beaten, ridiculed and then nailed to a cross while still alive. No matter what death God’s people may face, it will be no worse than what God and His Son endured.
Our Weapon: Our weapon is not a sword or a gun but the word of God, which gives us faith (real protection) that we will live forever whether we live or die. Faith in God’s word is what prepares us for martyrdom and fills us with His love and understanding towards all humankind.
